Where we operate

Location

The Republic of Somaliland is a sovereign state in the Horn of Africa sharing its borders with Republic of Djibouti, Federal Republic of Ethiopia and Somalia to the east. Its claimed territory has an area of 176,12 square kilometres, with approx. 5.7 million residents as of 2021. The capital and largest city is Hargeisa which has 1,2 million inhabitants.

Independence

The former British Somaliland Protectorate achieved its full independence from the United Kingdom in 1960 and became a Republic. It has a population of about 3.5 million people and it is about the size of England and Wales. The main language spoken is Somali, while the languages English and Arabic also are prominent in the Republic.

Economy

The country has one of the most thriving economies in Africa, strengthened by agriculture (especially livestock), the production of cereals and horticulture. It also has a hugely diverse quantity of mineral deposits across the country. The main currency used is the Somaliland shilling (SlSh) and US dollars which is regulated by the Bank of Somaliland.

Conflict free minerals

Landers resources only operate in conflict free areas, which is why we have limited our mineral extraction to Somaliland only. Somaliland is certified as a conflict free area and we can therefore guarantee our clients a safe and responsible mineral trading.
